CMSgt Joseph Lewis is the Command Chief for the 122nd Fighter Wing, Indiana Air National Guard, Fort Wayne, Indiana. As the wing command chief, he is the senior enlisted advisor and is responsible for advising commanders and staff on mission effectiveness, professional development, military readiness, training, utilization, health, morale and welfare of the wing’s enlisted Airmen, and takes action to address and correct shortfalls and challenges. He is also responsible for providing leadership to all enlisted personnel and is the functional manager for group superintendents and first sergeants within the wing.
Chief Lewis enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in November 2003. After completing Recruit Training and the Basic Combat Engineer Course, he was assigned to 6th Engineer Support Battalion. Sergeant Lewis deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006-2007. Upon separation from the Marine Corps, Sergeant Lewis enlisted into the Indiana Air National Guard in 2008 as a Weapons Load Crew Member. He deployed to Iraq again in 2010 as part
of the 334th Air Expeditionary Wing. Later that year, Sergeant Lewis was hired as a Production Recruiter at the 122nd Fighter Wing. After four years as a successful recruiter, to include being named the 2013 Air National Guard Production Recruiter of the Year, Sergeant Lewis was hired as the Recruiting Office Supervisor at the 122nd Fighter Wing in 2015. In 2018, Sergeant Lewis was hand selected for Operation Recovery in Puerto Rico as the Recruiting Subject Matter Expert. He was also named the Region IV Recruiting Flight Chief of the Year in 2016, 2017, and 2020. Prior to his current position Chief Lewis was the Senior Enlisted Leader, 122nd Medical Group, Indiana Air National Guard, Fort Wayne, IN.
